Dean, I don't have forced air heat so I'm only looking to change out the dedicated AC system. My oil burner is quite efficient, so I'm good there for a while.
I'm not sure that higher efficiency is derived from Puron running at a higher pressure. The most efficient Trane system is actually still Freon based. It is two stage with a variable speed air handler.
Regarding price, the top of the line Trane is less than the top of the line Carrier. Just having difficulty trying to sort out the differences between the manufacturers. It's not like a car that you get to test drive.
Also I'm going directly with an AC contractor. The contractor also does the install work for Home Depot in my area. My understanding is you pay a premium for going through HD or Sears as they have to get their cut.
By the way, what do you mean by 3 phase?
