I want the same car. I don't care about features.

Good seats, safety features I can use like nice seatbelt harness that holds me in, roll cage. Not safety that is illegal to tinker with for fear of dismemberment by airbag explosion.

Cars seem to be one seat fits everyone. Saab differs slightly be having a good regular seat and a geat aero seat. We should be able to go into a dealership and pick out seats like in a furniture store based on size, designer, materials, color, etc.. One person wants a lounge chair, someone else wants a rally seat. If we properly used seatbelts, we wouldnt need to depend on airbags to stop us from hitting the windshield.

A roll cage adds tremendous passenger compartment protection for relatively little weight. It does take away some space compared to pure unibody construction, but not much. Some cars have a realy good integrated roll cage - no reason more can't.

Once lightened and stripped, 250 HP should provide a good combination of power and fuel economy. The option for more is appealing though.

I'm not bothered by the lack of features of old cars. If they were more reliable, safe, and economical, the same designs could live or be recycled forever, right along with new designs. Sort of like how people upgrade the engine, instruments, instrument panel in their old plane or boat as technology changes.

For my next car, I'm leaning toward an antique car with a new engine and engine management and suspension/brake upgrades. Something like a RWD volvo 240 wagon with a V8 and a manual gearbox.

Failing that, a higher end kit car (factory five, noble, etc..) would provide a nice serviceable car without the airbags and gimmicks. A noble is outside my price range, but it certainly is good inspiration.
