Also note that OUR SOCIETY uses it as an excuse and it gets a label.
As somebody who has it and off the charts, let me be the first to say that it is not an excuse, it is a challenge. It can ALSO be a blessing. Because many of us are creative and think differently than others, we may solve problems that others have overlooked or come up with new ideas, etc. Of course, we also often miss the forest for the trees but that's what forcing yourself to be organized is all about.
I'm so tired of folks who have kids who are either just boys being boys or those who just do poorly in school, etc being labelled with ADHD. It takes much more than just one symptom to be diagnosed. They should also take into account your driving record, personal relationships, your school study habits and what you have done in school so far, your daily habits, etc.
I've read quite a few books on ADHD and the leading experts agree that many famous folks in history most likely had it. Some of these folks are alive now so it is a known quantity. Here is a list from memory from some of the books I have read.
Ansel Adams, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Isaac Newton, Lewis Carrol, Samuel Clements, Leonardo Davinci, Emily Dickenson, quite a few presidents, Ben Franklin, John D Rockefeller, Henry Ford, Salvador Dali, Faraday, Galileo, Bill Gates, Ernest Hemingway, Howard Hughes, Alfred Hitchcock, Thomas Jefferson, Bruce Jenner, Evil Knievel (gee who would have guessed?), John Lennon, Pablo Picasso, Mozart, Napoleon, Edgar Allen Poe, Dan Rather, Louis Pasteur, Charles Schultz, Henry David Thoreau, George C Scott, Robin Williams (that was a given), Wright Brothers, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Bill Lear from Lear jet. Apparently Bill Lear also invented some early 4 track tape technology that lead to the 8 track. I thought that was more interesting than the jet.
Remember, it is not an excuse, it is not a liability. It is a challenge and, if steered in the right direction, an asset. Just keep telling yourself that when you blurt out that the emperor has no clothes. :)
