This story pissed me off the first time it was posted here, and it still is! I completely sympathize with Saab Guy. The girlfriend was stupid and hit his car. He is entitled by law to get it fixed. BMW Breath decided to get a little publicity for himself and pulled his little stunt.
If I were Saab Guy I would have immediately had the car appraised and gone through her insurance to have it fixed. If they wouldn't provide information, or wouldn't pay up, I'd file a police report and go to court if I had to. Mr. Harvard should have kept his mouth shut and payed up for his girlfriend's mistake!
