Here's something I thought I should share with this BB: I've ordered two new Saabs for Euro Delivery in December.
Both my family's current cars are 6 years old; not falling apart yet, but eligible for renewal. We'll be replacing the minivan with an '06 9-5 SportCombi (silver, charcoal leather, visibility package and roof rails), and my '00 9-3 SE will be replaced with an '06 9-3 SportCombi (fusion blue, parchment leather, premium package). Since we were already planning a trip to Europe to visit our families for Christmas, the savings on the Euro delivery are pure profit: the two $2000 checks we'll be getting, the 9% off MSRP, 5% off options, the $720 destination charge we won't have to pay. And we won't have to rent a car or borrow from family during our visit. Since we'll only need one car to get around, the other will get shipped directly from the factory, so we will also save the $300 or so for registration and insurance, and not have to pay pick-up or drop-off fees.
On top of that, and despite what I've read from others on this BB, my dealer is giving me an additional discount, since I'm buying two cars. I won't jeopardize him by telling you which dealer, or how much discount, but it's four digits on the total sum. What also worked to my advantage probably is that I live in a black hole on the USA Saab dealership map; the closest dealer is about 1,5 hours away, and within a 2 hour driving range I have a choice of about 4 dealers to negotiate with.
We (me, wife, two kids) will fly into Amsterdam to visit our families in The Netherlands and Belgium. Since my wife has been having some back problems, and doesn't like long car rides, we'd figured we pay the extra $500 to pick up the car in Amsterdam, and give up on the visit to Trollhättan. It's dark and cold that time of year in Sweden anyway.
I got a call from my Saab salesman last week, saying that the folks at IDS are pretty excited about the fact that we're buying two Saabs at once, and that they want to do something extra for us if we decide to pick up in Trollhättan. Well, here's an incentive.. for me at least. My brother in law will now join me for the trip from Belgium to Sweden, the visit in Trollhättan, and the drive back. Should be fun!
I'll report on this BB about the visit.
