Aero vibes.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Mon, 17 Oct 2005 12:46:17 In Reply to: help! considering saab 9-5 aero, camp chicago, Mon, 17 Oct 2005 11:09:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The four cyllinder turbo 9-5's which incudes all the Aeros can shake a little at idle. Automatic, AC on, in gear, at a particular temp and humidity can produce a vibe that offends many, but is sometimes pretty normal for a 9-5. Off idle the 2.3T can be a skosh coarse, rough idle and a little coarseness are fair criticisms of a 9-5. Other than the sensation there's nothing detrimental about it, sometimes it can be improved slightly with a change in the idle speed, in fact it can become an indearing characteristic of the 2.3T having a totally different feel from other cars.
The V6 9-5's address this issue, they're very smooth at idle, but many folks will trade a little idle coarseness for the higher output, lighter weight and better economy of the four. The V6 has it's fans and is just as if not more reliable than the four.
Aero folks know who they are. That feel the road feeling is the reason to get the Aero, I call it "nailed down", the ability to be going quickly and encounter a big bump that doesn't upset the car. I like fat tires and sport seats too. I think a 9-5 Aero rides as well or better than a sport package BMW 5 or 3 series.
