Deep snow, skinny tires. Hard packed snow, not so much difference.
Tire inflation pressure is what determines the pressure against the road. Turrbo has it sorta wrong, because if narrow & skinny tires are both inflated to 30psi, then there's the same pressure against the road.
The narrow tire will have a contact patch that's longer fore-aft, but not as wide. Same area.
But what Schu found is that in deep snow the wider tire has to physically push more snow down &/or away. In that case the skinnier tire has the advantage because it doesn't have to do as much work packing/pushing the snow.
