I feel so inadequate with only 170HP........ All kidding aside, this is a tremendous HP increase (from 170HP to 260HP)for the base model in 6 years (2000 to 2006 model years), using the same engine. I realize the 2006 model/engine effectively replaces the Aero model too, but that HP has also gone up.
I know I can purchase upgrade kits from aftermarket suppliers to boost my car's HP numbers to similar values but these kits involve considerable hardware changes (turbo down-pipes with less restrictive catalytic coverters, enlarged turbo inlet pipes, less restrictive air filter elements, larger exhausts, higher pressure fuel pressure regulators, etc.) in addition to the revised engine software.
I wonder what the factory ECU gurus have discovered hiding within the computer code that the aftermarket coders haven't yet found? Or does the 2006 engine have major engine hardware differences from its predecessors?
It will be interesting to find out.
