Certainly any mechanical device that spends most of it's life sitting can create issues. My mother's car fit into this situation as well, but her's was over 15 years old when she stopped driving.
Since this car is only 3 years old, you likely will not have any problems with it, due to it's lack of use. Before driving it back to Vermont absolutely change the oil and filter. When you get home, I'd do it again along with changing the transmission fluid. This is cheap insurance.
The only problems I could forsee would be the tires. The will likely have some nice flat spots, so make sure your dental fillings are secure before that road trip. :-) Seriously though tires have a shelf life of about 7 years. I own a motorhome and this is an issue with those of us who only drive about 5000 miles or so a year. A rolling tire is a happy tire. Many articles have been writen on the subject in RV magazines and internet websites.
I'd say go for it.
