I had about the same situation. We inherited a 3-year-old Accord with 8000 miles. The oil looked pretty good, she had been changing it on the calander rather than the mileage, so at least she did that right. She kept receipts too, so I knew what was done.
So I pumped up the tires & drove it from Florida to Ohio. It's been good for the 4-years since then. I brought a couple things up-to-date (brake fluid) & I figured the battery wasn't gonna last forever, but it's still good today.
I guess I would have changed oil (tranny too) down there, if I didn't have records of that stuff. Look it over real good, or have a mechanic check it if you're not a DIY-type person. I knew what I was getting into & I had enough tools on that trip to fix it, but nothing screwed up.
