I puttered around for about a year doing odd jobs and manual labour before scoring my first engineering job. I had no intentions of going back to school, nor did I have the money to. Mind you, this was in Canada in 1991 before easy access to the internet, but long after the days of cattle-calls for day labourers (as my father reminded me).
I actually turned down a career-killer job (field engineer at a pulp & paper mill in northern Ontario) in order to wait for a better career starter job during that lean year. Ended up as a product development engineer at a medical device company. Still doing that today and depending on the day, loving it.
If you have the money, go to graduate school. If you don't, suck it up and get a job like the rest of us schleps.
If you do decide to get an advanced degree, be warned that a lot of employers do NOT consider a Master's degree as "work experience". You will be competing with fresh-faced graduates with Bachelor's degrees and perhaps a bit more enthusiasm for work.
Best of luck.
