There is no evidence to show that hunted deer are more likely to become road casualties. This is most likely some illogical conclusion arrived at by someone who knows little about deer biology and is trying to use their faulty logic to support an anti-hunting opinion.
While deer do not totally stop moving during the day, they are primarily nocturnal. It is at night that their amazing senses help to equal the playing field between them and their predators.
When the hunting season starts, the deer react to the increased presence of humans in the woods by utilizing their number one defense strategy: total stillness and concealment. They hunker down and don't move -- at all -- often for several hours at a time. Hunting season is more likely to make you see fewer deer. At night, when the deer know the hunters are out of the woods, they are busy getting to their feeding spots and back to their bedding spots before dawn. They are more likely to stick to well estrablished and historically safe (ie: deeply concealed and as far from human contact as possible) travel routes between these two places.
