60% Methanol - 39% Water - 1% Surfacting (soap) Posted by Scott Paterson [Email] (#13) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Scott Paterson) on Thu, 8 Dec 2005 10:10:13 In Reply to: What about 99.9% Anyhdrous Isopropyl Alcohol?, Scott Paterson [Profile/Gallery] , Thu, 8 Dec 2005 09:55:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I talked with my dad about how he made his Windshiped Wiper fluid which he sold in upstate New York out of his Rochester-based business.
He used 60% Methanol, 39% Water, and 1% Surfactin which is a kind of soap.
He was interviewed on TV (how excited all 8 of us kids were to see him on the evening news) about why windshield wiper fluid might freeze when you use it during the winter. He explained that the best way to use it effectively was to use your windshield defroster to warm your windshield because you have the wind chill factor working against you as well as the fact that the alcohol in the fluid also starts to evaporate on contact and that also has a natural cooling effect to.
I asked him about me using Isopropal Alcohol and he said that was just as good. In his dry gas, he had two versions to his brand, one that was made with Methanol (which he said people thought was better, but he felt there wasn't THAT much of a difference) and an Isopropyl version too.
-Scott (thanks, Dad!)
