Being 19 myself I would be more worried about other things than speeding. Drinking or smoking pot while driving would worry me much more than tickets, especially in today's age. Tickets happen, I got my first when I just turned 18 and luckily because I knew the right people I got off. But, I have not got one since that time. I learned not to drive way over the speed limit. I still drive +5 or +10 or to the flow of traffic. It's all about knowing the limits. When I recieved my ticket my dad was very upset with me. Instead of grounding me and taking my car away, he did one thing. He showed me the insurance bill. In order to keep me insured on a 1996 Saab 900S it cost $2,900 with collision. That was with a perfect record here in central Massachusetts. Tell your son that he will pay the increase which will be in the $100s. That scared me enough to back away from sudden bursts of speed on open untravelled roads. Opposed to treating him like a child, show him the bill and tell him he can take the surcharge and pay the price. When your a teenager, money is important and without it life can almost be catastrophic.
