my .02 cents worth..
The blade isn't as important as the prep of your face. My barber used to own a shop in the Mapes Hotel in Reno. He had 19 chairs, and as a group, they used to shave about 500 men per day in the 50's. I guess you could say, I learned from a Jedi master.
I shave in the shower, because that is the way I get a close shave. I have used Shick disposable razors and Lime Foamy for years, and I have a heavy beard (my 5 o'clock shadow starts at noon) with a soft face. I use a small convex mirror that fits in my hand.
The best way to get a close shave is to use hot towels on your face, to soften your beard, then wet it down, apply the creme, and shave with a good, fresh, sharp blade. If you are getting nicks, go slower. after some practice, you can shave yourself so close, you will be under the skin. The most important thing is to make you face hairs stand up. they won't if you have a lot of skin oil. Sea Breeze ahead of the hot towels works too.
Shave with the grain of your face, not against it.
Try doing things differently, and let us know your results...
