New Ford TV advertising - what the??!

Specifically for the Fusion and Focus.
Fusion: catchy, mildly irritating little jingle. Car drives along with attractive young couple inside (woman driving). Strange things happen to people/things as car goes by. No good pictures of car in or out. No information on car. This doesn't make me want to buy one but at least I'd recognize one as it went by.
Focus: Quick cuts between groups of stoned-looking people standing around staring off into the distance. A little computer animated picture of something that looks vaguely Focus-like at the end. No pictures of actual vehicle at all, and no info whatsoever. Actively dissuades me from purchase, even assuming that I could figure out that they were actually trying to sell me something, and what that something was.
What's wrong with these people? Do they get PAID for this work, or are ads like these merely the results of some kind of secret government funded psychological study?
