My warranties have all been through CompUSA. They have a "replace for any reason" ipod warranty, $30 for one year, $60 for two, and I purchased a new warranty with each exchange. They actually once encouraged me to "run over it with my car" when warranty expiration time comes around. They never asked me about my returns, I simply presented them with all receipts, boxes, accessories...they've never even opened my return items in front of me. My 10gig and 30gig had battery failures, and my 40gig cracked open on the side seam, somehow. The key for me was to wait a sufficient amount of time after a new model introduction to do my exchange, and just live with my problem ipod, to ensure all the old stock would be exhausted. CompUSA is doing things differently now, however, offering only AppleCare...so I now have that for two years, $60.
My kids and I watched all of "Yellow Submarine" through our Tivoli Pal during a power failure last weekend, not sure about battery capacity yet. But they usually only watch movies in the car on long trips when we're hooked to 12v. I think Apple traditionally inflates their battery life figures.
I'm not a tech guy at all, but the ipod, with it's Library of Congress capacity, is a great "bookend" to my portable victrola and 78's, which I love as well.
I don't know how the heck the pic of my camera got attached to my last post : O
