Never pay retail? Posted by Arabiflora [Email] (#1129) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Arabiflora) on Wed, 22 Feb 2006 20:19:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In the course of making a major purchase, I recently discovered that, given a willing Tax ID holder, one can save upt to 1/3 of retail purchase price. In my case, the ID holder simply gave me his number, told me to tell the seller it was a wholesale buy made in a resale operation, and to have them ship it to the 'customer's' (my) address.
What am I missing here? Am I subjecting my friend to any tax or criminal liability? Can I simply obtain a state tax ID number (e.g., for Arabiflora Enterprizes) and buy everything I need at wholesale prices? Let's say that there is a need to demonstrate retail activity-- would selling to a friend at $0.01 over wholesale price (and submitting requisite state sales tax proceeds suffice?
Even if technically legal, is this ethical? I feel like George Castanza in that Seinfeld episode where the picture of his (former) supermodel girlfriend allows him entrance to opportunities (babes) that he was otherwise oblivious to/not eligible for.
I just feel like I'm missing something here, any feedback would be welcome, and of course I don't take it as legal advice. I just need some pointers.
