I'm not going to walk around the city or sit on the subway or train with a big-ass CD player in my pocket, or even worse, on my lap. With a CD player, you can't organize by artist, genre, song title, etc. You can't create playlists for the gym, or to put on in the background after your hot date comes home with you (jk)...to do all that you need multiple CDs, and I'm not carrying around a CD case as well.
In addition to those reasons, I like to use it in my car. Sure my CD changer has much much better sound than a tape adaptor or iTrip, but it also holds only 6 CDS with about 20 songs on them. My iPod holds over 2,000 songs.
People will question why an iPod instead of a cheap MP3 player. The simple answer is because of the hundreds of available accessories.
The electronics world is very noticably heading towards a trend of micro-sized electronics. Think about the huge-ass cell phones in the early '90s, and compare them to the RAZR and SLVR today...people want SMALL! That's another reason why the iPod is so popular.
