Designing on the computer is great...for the most part. I design tooling to build production aircraft parts creating tools and couldn't imagine having to do some of it all on paper. However, if we didn't have a computer the parts would be significntly easier to make tools for and working on paper wouldn't be much harder. Some people believe if you can model it on the computer you can make it, which just isn't the case. Our company has one customer right now that designs everything to use a 5 axis mill, has small radius everywhere (.063" and .003"), shift holes that should be on a common pattern by .001 to .005", and if in doubt of the tolerance is made as small you can (true position of .010" or +/-.002). So as much of a blessing as CAD systems have been on desgin, they have brought on a whole set of new problems.
