After 3 semesters at University of Colorado, I took a year off to get in-state residency, and when it came time to re-enroll, I didn't get my financial aid until a week into school. All the classes I wanted were full, so I decided to "explore" some other options.

Intro to Marketing. Freshman level class. 600 students. So damn basic, boring, common sense type class. I think I stopped going and got a D in it or something.

Also that semester, Settlement Archaeology. Sounds sweet! Well, it turned out to be a Graduate level archaelogy class (I was an architecture student looking for an interesting elective). Instead of learning about excavating sites, it was a class about using statistical analysis of burin (artifacts) distribution (whaaa?????) to estimate where the outline of prehistoric buildings were.

Also used statistical analysis of ancient sites in Peru to see if they were random or a cluster of communities. Chi-square tests?!?!?

I never took statistics.

So I was one of two undergrads in a class with probably 15 grad students. We'd do class presentations. Me (with a stick pointing at site plans) - "My analysis indicates that the main entrance to the structure was...". I look out onto the class. The grad students all shake their heads. I start sliding the stick around the site plan. The grad students start nodding their heads. I conclude, "right about here!" I got a B for effort, I think. Class also had one super-hottie in it. Made it all worth while.

Advice for those in school: If the class SUCKS, and/or has no bearing on your major, DROP IT or take it Pass/Fail or no credit. MY GPA would have been much better if I had done this on 2-3 classes (Intro to Macro Economics - arghhhhhhhhhhh) when I went.
