I assume you have some document which qualifies your house as a homestead rather than an income property. I would send a copy of that document to your mortgage company accompanying a letter requesting that your escrow payments be lowered. In worst case, they will wait until after the summer tax bill comes due to verify they are placing too much in escrow. Make sure your taxing authority knows if is no longer income property too!!!
I have successfully argued for lower tax bills/assessments twice. The key is: 1) Remember the people you are pleading your case to are typically volunteers, so treat them politely; and 2) Have evidence to support your claim (i.e. copy of sales agreement showing the sales price of the home). They are forced to operate in a vacuum (sales prices are deliberately not recorded by seller) some times and therefore have to make a "best guess" estimate of a property's value. Provide them with proof and they will (probably) lower your assessment.
Good luck!
