As a cheapskate and electrical engineer, I would just use regular 12V wire from Home Depot, probably #14 or #16. Splices are the weak points and I would reinforce these with a painting of liquid electrical tape. They may last only a few years, but heck, it's cheap. And you aren't carrying a lot current any way.
