Yeah, we have Central State Hospital in Indianapolis, off W. Washington street near downtown. It was closed permanently in early 1990s I think, but had been open since the early part of the century. Back before modern treatments were available for those with disturbing mental disorders, they would go here, and their treatment was sometimes less than civil. When they closed down the hospital, they either knew there were unmarked burial plots on the grounds or they found them while doing demo work. A lot of people would be abandoned by their families in places like this, and here they would stay until they died, and who is to say how...
Anyhoo....I coach cross country, and last year for the first year, we moved the semi-state tournament to the grounds of the hospital. It goes around all the old buildings, and you can look in them. In some we saw used shotgun shells! It's not in a great neighborhood now, but the grounds are pretty in the fall, so it works.
