Houses back then really used no electricity. You had lights and maybe more well to do families had radios. Most people did not have telephones or cars. Now, everyone wants television, computers, DVD's, space heaters, vacuums, ceiling fans, washing machines, dishwashers, and A/C's. Those things did not exist back then so wiring was not designed for the higher amperages required by our new appliances and diversions. Now, you have proven you use a computer. What other toys do you have Pat that might become a problem.
My family house is from 1945. You better believe that when we moved in back in 1967, my dad, an electrical engineer and P.E., upgraded everything to double the legal standard. He saw back then that electricity is th lifeblood of the American home.
