I wear many hats putting systems into Toyota plants globally. I'm a project/program manager sometimes, pre-sales / proposal guy sometimes, and systems engineer for a little bit of my time. I'm on an expat assignment in Japan for a few months now. The first 5 months of 2006 include 2 trips to Toyota south africa (durban), 1 month at Toyota Guangzhou (2 weeks into it) and the rest of the time in Japan. I go home May 20th to the SF bay area! I'm counting the days to seeing my wife, eating western food, and driving my SAAB's!

We put systems in paint and assembly shops between the ERP layer and the robotics/conveyors/torque tools. Basically we track vehicles, enforce quality rules (quality problem not allowed to leave a station until fixed), provide maintenance call systems (andon boards and on radios), and provide historical downtime and quality reporting.

I've been at it 10 years, and while the travel sucks, I really like the work.

Off to Hong Kong for the night. Time to catch the ferry...
