OT: Zeolite swimming pool filtration media.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 20 Jun 2006 18:57:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Of the few swimming pool owners on this board, has anyone ever used Zeolite as a replacement for sand in their filter?
On the basis of advertising claims I replaced the 6 year old quartz sand in my Hayward filter this spring with Zeolite. This new media is claimed to filter out particles much smaller than what sand is capable of filtering, 3 micron versus 100 micron particles. Nearly as good as Diatomaceous Earth with none of the hassles or health concerns. I was told to install an amount of Zeolite equal to 1/2 the amount of sand previously used; in my case that was 100 pounds of Zeolite in my S200 filter.
Two observations: 1) 100 pounds of Zeolite does not provide a filter bed depth equal to 200 pounds of sand, and 2) the pool water doesn't seeem as clear as any of the previous 18 years with quartz sand in the filter.
I plan to add an additional 25# bag of media to completely fill my filter housing in hopes of gaining better filtration. Any one else ever use Zeolite? What was your experience?
Thanks.
