My 1997 900 SET was stolen. I left the key and fob in the drop box at my mechanics. The key was taken from the drop box the car stolen. The car was recovered at the local impound minus the key and about $1100 in stereo equipment. Damage to the vehicle was minimal. The inside was trashed, some broken trim panels, dirt, etc.. The exterior had some new scratches, dings, and one minor dent.
The estimated damage is $3500. Stereo $1100. Rental car $900. New key and fob $300. All told the insurance company will pay roughly $5800 to repair a car that is worth around $5K.
While I am pleased to have my vehicle repaired, I am upset with the idea that they will pay more than the value of the car to repair it. Especially since the key and fob are still in the hands of the thief and the insurance company will not pay to rekey or reprogram the car.
