While there are standards for the secondary mortagage market, upon which your obligation was sold, your first duty is to read the contract completely. Under older agreements, years ago, generally there were no such restrictions.
If you have time, contact your state Attorney General consumer frauds office, and maybe also your state banking department. These agencies vary hugely by state as to whether they are worth a damn to consumer/citizens or are just there to relate to the their corporate clients.
Finally, the banks and the secondary purchasers have legions of attorneys. (And, dummies with scripted speeches who answer their phones and sit in front of computer screens.) If you want to fight it or know your rights, so go to an attorney versed in consumer law (few) or banking law (also few).
You might try writing to the FTC and check out the web site for the National Consumer Law Center.
Without reading the contract first, though, you are wasting your time, probably ours too, and perhaps your own money.
