1994 9000 aero 5 speed
Long story, I've replaced a lot of things on my aero in the last 18 or so months. All at the same shop, who specializes in European cars, Saab especially. I'm quite short on $$, having recently bought a house, gotten engaged, replaced numerous things on my car and around the house as well.
Maybe April/May 2005 First I snapped a driveshaft when my front left wheel bearing seized. At that time I had a shop replace the clutch with a group 9 clutch.
A few months maybe july/august 2005 later my turbocharger bearing failed, result, new (not rebuilt) turbo.
Then in late Nov/early Dec 05 my transmission failed, cracked the case. Result: used transmission installed, flushed and filled with Saab Synthetic Gear box oil(at the shops recommendation). I was told it had under 100K on it. My core trans was not usable and I couldn't afford to pay for a rebuilt trans and pay the core fee.
May 06 Second transmission failed catastrophiocally. Pieces of the differential explode out through the speed sensor access point. Result: another used transmission (costing more than the first) and a refund of the original transmission purchase price. I however had to pay for labor and shipping charge (again) this transmission also got flushed and filled with saab synth gear box oil (again at their recommendation). At this time I was not told of any difference in the warranty period for the replaced transmission.
Last week Tuesday Sep 5 2006, I notice a strange low amplitude vibration type sound that appears to be wheel speed dependent, prominent when decelerating/coasting in gear not while accelerating or maintaining speed. It also was quieter with the clutch in, or the transmission in neutral.
When I got home I was surprised to find a trail of fluid behind my car only from the end of the driveway to the car, it was leaking transmission fluid (gear box oil). I know it's not from the slave, the master cylinder is full and I have super blue fluid in all the hydraulics. It also appears to be the exact same fluid that leaked all of the side of the road in may.
I currently cannot afford to have the car towed to the shop, I don't know if I want to take it back there again either. I went out to look at the car again today and found one of the bolts securing the engine to the bellhousing/transmission was out, about to fall out of it's hole. I can't tell if other bolts are missing but there are a few open holes that could be access holes.
So my question is: Where should I go from here? I don't want to bad mouth a shop, but this appears to be grossly negligent, A bolt on a transmission is important. If it was a bolt securing the under bumper plastic I wouldn't be so upset.
So I'm looking for advice: The shop hasn't been told of this bolt yet as I just discovered it, but they also said they needed to see the car prior to saying anything. In addition I was told the source of this used transmission may not honor a return and credit request. I don't want to have the car towed there unless they're going to fix it, and I don't want to pay to fix it, I don't know that I want them to do the work (again). I could do the job myself this time as I have a garage that will allow the car to be open for the time required. I've been without my car for a week, it's not convenient by any means, but I can't afford a rental car either.
I'd like to try and work this out amicably, but I don't want to start that route and find out I need some sort of legal action instead. Basically I need to make sure I've got all based covered in the event legal action may be required.
Thanks for input, I do appreciate it.
