These are just suggestions. It is yours and your doctors' responsibilities to fully investigate your condition(s) and readiness for surgery and to accept the risks of surgery/treatment...
First and foremost, have you researched your doctor! Have you gotten a second opinion? Has your doctor discussed and researched risks and benefits with you? Is your Internist/Cardiologist fully involved in this?
2) Are your kidneys OK? Contrast media can hit kidneys hard (even in healthy kidneys). This is even more pronounced in diabetics. The damage can be devastating.
3) Are they using veins for the graft? Healthy veins are usually superior to artificial graft material.
4) Are you at risk for losing a toe or a foot, or is the claudication pain realy bad. Is this true claudication pain? Is it worse walking up or downhill or down stairs? What are your ABR's?
5) Poor circulation is a risk factor for amoungst other things, heart attack and stroke.
6) If you are a smoker, this was your warning. STOP SMOKING!
7) What is your cholesterol? Get it under control.
Best of luck to you.
