Well, a great time. Took lots of pics which are linked to below.
Good showing for a first meeting. Craig, Ed, and Robert (names in alphabeticl order) met up with me at Floyd Bennet Field at about 1PM. We all went to a beach area. There is enough space there for hundreds of cars, so we have room to grow. The weather was perfect, about 74 degrees, mild breeze, sunny skies, and lotsa' Saabs. Craig dropped by in his 1988 Rose Quartz 9000 Turbo. Those cars are just beasts on the road. That engine can pull and pull for days. Ed drove in his 900TC. Very clean original car. We will be working on installing a JT downpipe for him in a few weeks. Rob showed us all up in his CPO'ed 9-5 Aero that is just mint! I drove my 900 SiS. I actually needed the A/C, and it seems to be working fantastically after swapping a hose using my new method that retains the old crimps so the hoses don't blow off. My Godyear tires just hold the road like I am in a train car on rails. I can hardly wait to get on the twisty roads with these guys and let the beasts loose.
After we met at the field and took a few pics and looked over each other's cars, we all went to a diner overlooking Sheapshead Bay and had an outdoor lunch. It was fun conversation with great people. Everyone was laid back and interesting. We will meet again in a few weeks, and we are considering projects to work on. Ed and I will do the JT downpipe thing and relocate his battery to the trunk. Craig and I will most likely attack a few of his oil drips (although his engine did not look too bad to me). Craig and I might also do the turbo rebuild thing. I will be doing a radio swap from a '94TC with CD player and another Clarion CD changer in the trunk. Rob's car is mint, so he will just drive and gloat. His is a really sweet ride.
If there is enough demand, I will hold a turbo rebuild clinic. You will be responsible for a rebuild kit and tools. I will demonstrate technique.
If all this interests you and you are in the Greater New York or even the Tristate area, shoot me an Email and I will hook you into the club.
Best all, and happy Saabing!
