Your roof ridge manufacturer should provide instructions and a formula to calculate the number/size of soffit vents and what configuration to use. Attic ventilation is essential, but there is such a thing as having too much of a good thing.
Experienced this a couple times in the last 30 years of building additions on homes. Too much ventilation can create a negative pressure inside the attic and suck snow into the attic. The conditions have to be just right... or wrong, for this to happen but can be avoided by following the manufacturers' recommended balance.
Not to be anal, but soffit vents have different ratings on how much air passes through depending on whether they have sliced vents in vinyl soffit or round perforations. Factor in those numbers also if you want to be very specific.
Good Luck....
