OT: Deviated Septum and frustrating breating issues...

Hey guys,
For the past year+ now I have not been able to breathe well. Almost constantly stuffy...sometimes absolutely plugged...sometimes super drippy. Recently had to take antibiotics because of an infection that formed. It's really affecting my quality of life now. I had thought it was allergies. Went to my Dr. and she gave me some allergy meds. I asked her if I had a deviated septum, and she said yes, but that she'd like to try medicine first. Allegra-D worked for me (antihistamine + decongestant). But then I was switched to other anti-histamines without decongestant, since allegra-d is supposedly quite potent, and they did not work for me. It seems it was the decongestant that helped me. I've been taking some Sudafed recently, and it helps a bit, but thats not something I want to take often - it makes me hyper and I don't like how it makes my heart beat sometimes.
Anyway, I'm thinking of seeing an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist and really trying to treat this, because I'm am beyond frustrated. Has anyone experienced this before? Has anyone had a deviated septum, had the surgery, and had good results? I heard that there are no guarantees.
thanks for any info/tips!
Alex
