This hits the nail....
I cut my teeth in computers ten years ago t-shooting this kind of stuff. Pulling a ps out and opening one up is an eye-opening experience. And when you think about how it spends its life it shouldn't be a surprise that it can get so clogged up. When those heat fins can't transfer the heat the way they should because they're now wearing a nice warm fur coat, the ps will just shut off. No warnings, no beeps.
Warning beeps are signals from where there are sensors on the mobo (or on the hard drives sometimes). They're configurable in the BIOS, but there aren't any in the ps (that I know of).
Unplug the ps, unscrew it from the case (unplug a minimum number of power leads if necessary), open up the cover and have at it with a vacuum with a crevice tool, a small car detailing brush and a can of compressed air.
