When I was renting and saving for a home, I felt poor when house prices went up as It made me feel the carrot was farther away and I would need to save more to own a home. Now that I am in my house, I feel richer when it's a sellers market ( even though Im not in a position to sell ) and poorer when it's a buyers market as my potential for profit from the sale would not be as high as a sellers market if I were to sell. It's all relative to your current stage in life. Unless you are in the business of buying and selling homes and/or moving every few years for whatever reason it really has little relevance.Unless your suddenly faced with a life changing decision ( job change/family issue/divorce/etc ) the "now" is only a paper profit or loss, richer or poorer. If you have an adjustable rate mortgage your payments will fluctuate based on the interest rate which can be a huge impact on how much cash you may or may not have left over at the end of the month to spend on goodies or stash away as savings or investments, if your income is basically the same month over month. It's way more complicated than that but ..........
