I agree it's completely ridiculous. Unfortunately, it's a result of consumer demand and government regulations. People (supposedly) want more convenience, safety, and all the goodies like nav, park assist, etc. As I recall, stability control and tire pressure monitors are soon, if not currently, required. It's no wonder cars are getting more expensive, more complex, heavier, less fuel efficient, and less reliable. Sure they don't leave us stranded as much anymore but the constant electrical gremlins are so annoying.
If all this technology was more reliable I'm all for it. I like a lot of the flexibility the Tech II offers in my 9-3 but I wish it was user adjustable and not require a trip to the dealer. Ideally, they could offer something web-based that I could adjust at home or work, have it sent to the car (via OnStar or similar) and have the settings made when I walk out to the car, I would be a happy camper. I just don't see that happening anytime soon.
I wonder if we'll ever see a backlash against all this crap in cars. At what point do consumers say enough and begin to look for simpler, more reliable options?
