You don't know how right you are.
One way to fix many issues on a Volvo of this genre is to lift off the battery cables and hold them together for some seconds and than put them back on the battery and start the car.
This can sometimes cure a whole bunch of weird problems and as some of you might have seen, that was one of the suggestions on the 9-3SS/SC board just a week ago.
So number 3 on "If Microsoft build cars" is already here.
Just to educate myself, I scan all these cars for fault codes every time they come in to see what's going on.
On 100% of all those Volvo models, it is a multitude of fault codes in different modules pointing to low voltage, voltage glitches, communication problems and so forth without the car really having a problem for the moment.
A fresh, strong battery of high quality is a must nowadays to keep all these modules alive.
Many owners will run into problems if they skimp on the battery or keep an old battery in there for too long and they might be spending tons of money at general repair shops where they try to find a problem that doesn't exist, but the car just need a new battery.
Just like a PC, a proper power supply is a must.
It might still be plenty of juice to crank over and start the car but during the cranking session, the voltage drops so low that is messes up modules on the network and they need to be rebooted.
