I bought a 2003 blue/tan 9-5 Aero sedan back in 2005 through ebay motors after a few long trips to auto auctions like Manheim and Bordentown...
The seller took 24 pictures of the vehicle from every possible angle except from the front, I suspect this put off many potential buyers...
I decided to take the risk and won the auction. I could always refuse at inspection. I met him at a McDonald's parking lot in Philadelphia, he drove the Aero and his partner followed. We shook hands, I did a walk around, measured paint thickness and looked under the hood, kicked the tires and went for a test drive. There was a reason for him not taking pictures of the front...the hood and grille/bumper had bad rock paint chips/pitting, the type you get on gravel roads or driving behind a truck. However, the paint thickness was OK on all panels so I figured the car wasnt wrecked. Car was detailed and came with those temporary paper floor mats you get at the dealer, prepped and professional.
I had a Capitol One blank check loan good for 20K, we went inside, I ordered small fries and wrote the man a check for 15.3K. At that moment, my significant other got sick and excused herself from the table...not everyone can write a check for 15.3G's to a Russian man in a McDonalds parking lot, take the keys, temp plates and walk away...
The only thing that I didn't like about the seller is that his auctions are private; and you can't see bidders or results. This prevents you from;
-asking past customers for their opinions and;
-seeing if the bid wasn't raised last minute by a "friend"

The car drives fine, I received my title in the mail 14 days later....

Bring a mechanic to your meeting point and a jack....refuse to take delivery and walk away....all these are available to you...not all ebay purcahses are scams..
