Wow!
Excuse my newbeeness since my experience with anything GPS is (was) limited to Google Earth, but this thing is the bomb.
After I (Master of Technical Manuals) pored over the docs and got familiar with the thing, I handed it over to my wife and she'd mastered it in minutes. It's that easy.
Out in the country where we were, it quickly found us at our correct elevation. Used it to find various POIs (points of interest) and, up against my intimate knowledge of the area, determined reasonable routes to them. Make a wrong turn and it very quickly adjusts its recommended route to keep you going. Prefer not to take interstates? or toll roads? Not a problem. I previewed a route from a place up in the Adirondacks to Long Island and no interstates. That's not completely possible once you get down toward the city (NYC) and need to cross one of the bridges, but after some churning and progress bar activity it came up with a route I know to be reasonable.
My only complaint so far is it's bulk (altho admittedly I was attracted to it's 5" diagonal screen). Using the RAM suction attachment I attached it to the lower, forward part of the windshield. I understand this isn't legal in CA and I don't know what ya'll'd do except leave it on the passenger seat. It was fairly low profile but still looked kind of clumsy. I'm thinking some kind of 'pod' attachment to the inside of the passenger's footwell would be better. It's not intended to be a permanent fixture in the car tho, and installing/removing isn't too much of a hassle.
Also I had to do some maneuvering of the rather large cig. lighter with builtin speaker as it originally conflicted with the shifter of my manual trans. Also, I need to find a way to accomodate both it and the radar detector, but that's something that's long overdue for hardwiring anyway.
Many more tests to go (in the city, unknown territory, etc.) but so far we love it.
