I've got a 40 gig ipod and its great. Several features of the ipod that I don't know if you can get on other mp3's
1. itunes supposedly has the largest catalog of songs for sale. Note that sometimes you cannot get a whole "album" as for some reason someone (the label?) will hold back one song from an album. Infrequent problem but annoying nonetheless. And no beatles yet. but its SOOO easy to use.
2. using apples "lossless" encoder to "record' songs give a much higher sound quality on playback if thats important to you, but you cannot put as many songs on the pod (I have about 2500 songs on mine most of which are on the highest quality and still have about 18 gig left).
3. No matter what you get, buy a quality pair of over ear headphones. you don't want to be sticking those ear buds down your hearing canal and blasting music. Get sound cancellation if you can afford it. I have sennhouser headphones that are audiophile quality. Lots of companies make them now.
