Yeah, snow depth is relative around here. I've skied through May most every year. And last year, July 4th saw skiers on chair lifts at Mammoth and Squaw (Mammoth is down "south", not a Tahoe resort.)
I lived in Bozeman, MT the last two years, and am now back in NorCal. I'd say that all my skis there were "rock" skis. The dry snow, while absolutely outstanding to ski in, doesn't make for the most thorough of covers! (I had to get used to ski lodges being built at ground level. Any lodge out here has a second-story deck, with no windows or doors on the first floor. Or, perhaps a half-basement, then deck.)
If ever you're out this way, drop a line... I'll call in sick!
Happy turns!
