and what they have now. What they like, don't like and what they need a car to do. I ask how long they keep a car and how they feel about maintenance. This gives you a direction right away. I also ask what cars they see that they are thinking about.
I tell them I'm very happy with Saabs, and they are welcome to drive one of ours. I do tell them that like any Euro car, a Saab can be more expensive to run than, say, a Toyota. But I also talk about how Saabs drive, all weather capability, safety, durability, etc. I'm upfront and tell them I don't like most Japanese cars and why, but say I tend to be picky and that 40 years of driving Euro cars has spoiled me. I tell them an Asian car is fine if you think of cars as appliances or think of driving as something you have to do instead of something you enjoy.
More often, though, people will ask what I think of a specific make and model.
