But did this guy know you're an advanced degree mechanical engineer, who works in the automotive industry, who owns two Saabs, who does all his own maintenance, and who has had trouble-free ownership for 189,000 miles on the older of the two cars?
Without knowing that information, and especially considering that your advice was unsolicited (albeit well-intentioned), I'd be just as likely to ignore your advice as I would ignore the advice of a pimple-faced sales clerk. Most of us have received bad advice enough times to be skeptical of what we're being told.
This is why I ask my questions on Saabnet before I go to the auto parts store... (in fact I think I may have taken MI-Roger's advice on several occasions)
