the right tires, err..., I meant antenna for the radio/receiver/tuner.
Yes, the tuner (or the car) makes a difference but it's the antenna (tires that hit the road) that truly is the frontend of any radio reception.
The best antenna is of course an outdoor antenna, yes it could be a big antenna, yes even bigger than your roof TV antenna.
If that's out of the question, how about putting it in the attic ? No again ?
Hmm... how about a large indoor antenna, take a look at the Audioprism products (scroll to the bottom after clicking on the link below). Yes, it's not small for an indoor antenna but if you are near the edge of FM reception, the antenna may just be enough to get you a couple of FM stations.
Have you tried an amplified antenna like Terk, Parsec, or even Radio Shack's ? Personally, I don't like these, I have a couple of them and I use a Terk for a table top mini-system. However, I think the passive and large size antenna does a better job. I use a simple dipole, i.e. two wires, for my mid-fi FM tuner, but I live 15 miles from New York City, so reception isn't really a big problem.
