Sorry, I should have clarified a little further. I realize there should be no call quality difference as the network and coverage is the same. The free phone (Nokia 6030) has a built in radio tuner that I thought would be useful so I had been using it. I used the new free phone since it was new and I expected improvements in technology, my other phones are 3-5+ years old, the Treo is a 600. I do switch my SIM card in and out of all my GSM phones (5) depending on need and convenience. They are all T-Mobile or Unlocked GSM's.
Also, T-Mobile pre-paid is strictly pay as you. No free weekends/nights or peer-to-peer minutes. The rate is ~$0.10/min once you hit the $100 refill threshold, but you can occasionally get discounted refill cards. I higher rate, but still better than $30-50/mo + taxes and fees when I averaged less than 150mins/mo
