Don't know the Murray, but 13yrs is not a lot of wear for a snowblower. Even in MN or WI.

My experience has been that folks tend to leave gas in the blower, and over the summer it evaporates in the carb. After enough of those cycles have gone by there is a pretty good buildup in the carb. I take a very lazy approach to cleaning, just spray carb cleaner in the air intake. Sometimes I need starting fluid to get it kicked off. After it is running, I add carb cleaner to the gas too for the next couple of months. By then things are running smoothly.

If that doesn't work right away, I screw in the two adjusting screws all the way, carefully noting how far I went in so I can back it off the same. This seems to clean off the needles and seats enough to get some more carb cleaner into the openings.

For gas related issues this has always worked for me. I've got 4 snowblowers in the garage, 3 restored in this manner. Also a few lawnboys refreshed in the same way.

Then I make sure I run all of the gas out of the tank before putting away. May take awhile this year, as I have been expecting more snow.

I'd give this a try before bolting on a new carb. Maybe you can send it back.
