and it isn't hugely difficult to create a fake identity. Consider that it's easy to alter a driver's license. Now if you get stopped for speeding a cop will (probably) be able to tell it's faked. But in airports no one really examines the license to be sure it's real. If you hand it to someone in some type of clear holder as many people do, all they are looking at is the name and matching it to the ticket. They aren't examining the license to see if it is a fake.
I figure from your various posts that you travel at least as much as I do (50-60K a year). So think about how many times the TSA weenies actually compare the photo on your license or passport with your face to see if they are similar. I watch for this and it's well under 30%. And the ticket counter people never do.
My point being that it would be easy for someone with a faked license--their photo with someone else's name--to travel on tickets charged to a stolen credit card.
