Octane and chain saws

Just bought a new Stihl chainsaw and I was surprised to find that it requires 89 octane. According to the owners manual, running 87 octane will make it run hotter and ultimately hurt the engine.
The guy at the store also said it's important to run a high quality 2-cycle oil meant for high rpm engines. He said the ones that work in a 2-stroke lawnmower at 3800 rpm aren't good enough for 10,000 rpm chainsaws. He said brand doesn't matter as long as it's from a company like Stihl, Echo, Jonsered or Huquvarna.
