That's a good one... Posted by PGAero [Email] (#1143) [Profile/Gallery] (more from PGAero) on Tue, 10 Apr 2007 10:26:34 In Reply to: Flex fuel engines explained (ROFL), Ted Yurkon, Mon, 9 Apr 2007 08:55:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I think he should stick to market speculation...
Yes, TML, rpm determines piston speed for any given engine. I imagine he was told something about how timing has to be adjusted for the ethanol to work, and that the engine does it automatically.
Yeah, he should stick to market speculation. I have to admit, someone who goes spouting completely bogus information about something like that makes me wonder how well he did his homework on something else... And he makes it seem like flex fuel engines are brand new. It's been a couple years, right?
"I want to give you a quick heads up about this new motor that's starting to revolutionize the world of autos..."
It's really not that revolutionary. If the infrastructure was around here in the states to deliver ethanol, they'd be everywhere. Maybe in 1992 when Saab introduced the Ecosport Prototype with the ability to burn gasoline, methanol, or ethanol, or any combination of the three, this enthusiasm about a "new" engine (not a motor, by the way) would be warranted. Too bad alternative fuels are taking so long to catch on. More options means more competition, means more advancements, means better prices (generally speaking.)
Click on "Ecosport Prototype" at the link below to read about Saab's 15-year-old execution of this elegant idea.
Also, and on a side note, I think that Saab was too far ahead of the game for it's own good back then. Can we say the same thing about them now? Are they even ahead of the game at all. (I'd say that safety-wise, Saab is still the industry leader... will that remain?) Saab used to be a think-tank/innovation type company which lost money on cars, but contributed well above their share of technology to the industry. I hope it can be that in the future. Will GM let it? Does GM even know what that means?
Okay, enough from me...
